Item Description
On 8 March 1886, Gottlieb Daimler ordered an "Americaine" model coach from Wilhelm Wimpff & Sohn in Stuttgart, apparently for his wife Emma's upcoming birthday. However, the truth was that he wanted to fit an engine and use it as a further experimental vehicle. He installed an air-cooled, upright, single-cylinder engine designed like the "grandfather clock" engine he used as a model. Compared with the engine from the "riding carriage", Daimler and Maybach had almost doubled the displacement and they were able to increase the output to 1.1 hp accordingly. In 1887, the Motor Carriage was converted from an air to a water-cooled system. For this purpose, a large honeycomb radiator was fitted below the rear seats.
Daimler's motor car was the first four-wheeled vehicle driven by a high-speed combustion engine. In contrast to the Benz Patent Motor Car, which represented an independent, holistic design, Daimler's first motor car was merely a coach without drawbar featuring conventional fifthwheel steering simply put: a coach without horses.
Daimler initially didn't consider evolving it or even launching his motor car in series production. With the Motor Carriage he had once again demonstrated the application options of his engine and continued to pursue the aim of producing engines for any kind of industrial applications.

The miniature model of Daimler's Motor Carriage is painted in original colours, made of die-cast metal and has been reproduced with extreme accuracy based on original CAD data. This is reflected by accurate reproductions of all, high-grade decorative elements. This miniature work of art definitely adds to any miniature model aficionado's collection and is supplied in Mercedes-Benz Classic packaging.
